A biography of Coco Lee
Coco Lee has the honour of being one of the few people of Chinese descent to have performed at the Oscars. She was born in Hong Kong on 17 January 1975. She is an American as well as a Hong Kong citizen. She is a successful singer in Asia and has a great following in the Chinese community in America.

Recording contract
Coco Lee grew up in San Francisco with her two elder sisters. She exhibited singing abilities at an early age and one of the indications of her future singing career was that people were willing to pay money to buy her Karaoke recordings at a local restaurant. On a vacation to Hong Kong after graduating from high school, she won second place in a musical contest. She accepted a contract from a music record company.
Successful singer
She has not looked back ever since. She was a successful singer by 1995 when she came out with her album, ‘Brave Enough to Love’ in English and ‘Woman in Love’ in Mandarin. She soon signed up with Sony Music and was very popular in Taiwan. She continued singing in Mandarin and added Cantonese songs to her repertoire. In 1998, she won the MTV Asia Music Award for Best Music Video and Best Album.

She has also collaborated with many international stars in her musical career. In 1999, she sang with Julio Iglesias the popular song, ‘When You Tell Me that You Love Me.’ The theme song of the movie ‘Notting Hill’—“Married You’ was sung by Coco Lee. She performed with Michael Jackson in ‘Michael Jackson and friends’ concert. One of her songs is on the soundtrack of ‘Runaway Bride.’

Her career has been a roller coaster ride of singing concerts and recording in America, Taiwan and Hong Kong. She is a great hit with the Chinese community the world over. She was studying to be a doctor like her mother when she suddenly got immersed in a singing career. She has acted in movies. She has been a Youth AIDS ambassador in 2004. She has featured in the Korean soundtrack for Charlie’s Angels 2. She sang with Sun Nan an Olympic song in 2008. She is one of the top 25 sexiest pop divas of the world according to E! Entertainment.
