A biography of Linda Lael Miller
Linda Lael Miller is a popular American author who writes predominately historical and romantic novels, sometimes under the pseudonym Lael St James. The daughter of a town marshal, Miller is a writer whose work reflects her deep and lifelong immersion in the 'western' lifestyle, she has now produced more than 100 novels.
Biography
Background Linda Lael Miller was born in 1949, in Washington State, as Linda Lael. Her father complemented his work as a town Marshall by also appearing on the rodeo circuit, along with his brother, Jake 'Jiggs' Lael. Linda, the writer Linda began writing stories at the age of ten following encouragement from a school teacher. Another influence she claims on her later fictional work was an elderly neighbour who regaled her with tales of old Western outlaw he professed to have encountered. After graduating from high school, Miller did not attend college. She did travel extensively though, living in England and Italy before returning to the US to live in Arizona. She returned to live in Washington State in 2006.
Work
The novelist Miller's first accepted work was a novel entitled 'Fletcher's Woman', a historical romance, and since then she has gone to produce around 100 more. Set in a variety of historical periods from the medieval to the contemporary, Miller favours an old West setting, and views the cowboy as an essential American archetype, to whom American readers can relate, aspiring to the example of resourcefulness and honour such a character sets. Miller's work often features female protagonists, who are resourceful and self-reliant, tough women who assert themselves in historical eras where the roles of women are often understated.

Scholarship Linda Lael Miller also offers a scholarship scheme for women, usually those over the age of 25 for whom finding opportunities in further and higher education can be more difficult than for more conventional college students. The scholarship funds can be used for things such as childcare costs and transport, often difficult things to arrange for women in education, rather then simply tuition fees and costs. Achievements Miller has received six nominations for the Romance Writers of America RITA Award. Additionally, she has won the Silver Pen Award, and the Romantic Times award for Most Sensual Historical Romance.
