O'Reilly the TV reporter
Bill O'Reilly is the man everyone thinks they know. For some, he is the face of Fox News, for others, he is merely evil incarnate, but whoever he is, he has the power to make us think hard about where we stand on many political issues. O'Reilly worked for years as a television journalist on a local level in Pennsylvania, Texas and Colorado. By 1982, he had already gained a reputation as an investigative reporter and was assigned to cover the conflicts in El Salvador and the Falkland Islands for CBS. After an unpleasant departure from CBS, O'Reilly worked at ABC News on programs like Good Morning America and Nightline. After several years covering the falling of the Berlin Wall, the LA riots and other high-profile stories, he took a break from journalism and attained a Master's degree in Public Administration at John F. Kennedy School Of Government.
The political commentator
After twenty years as a TV reporter and host of some prestigious news programmes along with a degree on his wall, O'Reilly accepted the job as host of a TV show carrying his name on the newly-launched Fox News Channel. O'Reilly was allowed to comment on his favourite subjects - culture and politics. This is where O'Reilly stops being a journalist. He becomes a political commentator and controversial personality.
In a 2003 radio interview, O'Reilly states: "I'm not a political guy in the sense that I embrace an ideology. To this day I'm an independent thinker, an independent voter ... there are certain fundamental things that this country was founded upon that I respect and don't want changed. That separates me from the secularists who want a complete overhaul of how the country is run." The interview can be found at NPR.org.
George Ouzounian, aka Maddox, the author of a humour blog, posted an article entitled "Bill O'Reilly is a big blubbering vagina".
You can read it at Thebestpageintheuniverse.net but here is a quote:
"This guy is the epitome of narcissism, and coming from a guy whose website is titled "The Best Page in the Universe," that's saying a lot. If I had to describe Bill O'Reilly in a phrase, it would be 'sock-sniffer'."
That sums up where sock sniffing O'Reilly's enemies stand.
