If you are using a computer that does not have word processing software, you can download Open Office for free. Online word processors are also available for free. Google Docs also is particularly good because you can store your documents in the Google cloud, share your documents with other Gmail users, and track changes in your word processing document.

You can share documents with people with whom you share a hyperlink, or you can keep documents private. You can also allow people to edit documents, own documents, or just read them. Google docs supports images being inserted in the documents, and there is a spellchecker. If you used Google Gears, you can use Google's word processing software offline.
