A review of Friends' final episode

The final episode of the hit sitcom "Friends", aptly named "The Last One" first aired in 2004. The series, which has spanned over 1000 episodes is almost an integral part of modern culture. The final episode is truly the perfect end to the perfect show. Broken into two separate episodes, it sums up what viewers have been waiting for, for years.

Friends - The Last One, part one

The first episode in this era ending finale depicts Joey and Phoebe, clearing out an apartment for Chandler and Monica as they go to the hospital to finally witness the birth of their child to a surrogate mother. The tension for an audience, who have known Monica's dream to have children since episode one, is intense to say the least. As the episode progresses, we learn that the baby they were expecting is actually twins, this little twist adds such flavour to the characters, that an audience can't help but be enthralled by. On the other side of the Friends spectrum, Ross is told by Rachel that "Sex, was the perfect way to say goodbye." As she is leaving to go to Paris. Ross is devastated that she doesn't share his feelings. As Rachel is about to get on her plane, Ross and Phoebe chase her and tell her his true feelings. This sudden burst of emotion ends Part one on a cliffhanger of epic proportions.

Friends - The Last One, part two

The actual final episode of the Friends TV show depicts Chandler and Joey's attempts to rescue the trapped Duck and Chick in their beloved Foosball table. This small plot ends when Monica finally smashes the table for them. However, the main emotional impact of this episode is Ross' quest to recover Rachel. He and Phoebe finally make it to the Airport, only to find that they are at the wrong airport. So, Phoebe phones Rachel and tells her not to go, because something is wrong with the fictitious "Phalange" of the plane. A nervous passenger hearing this panics and the entire plane is evacuated. This leaves enough time for Ross to make his way to the correct airport, only to find that when he confesses his love to Rachel, she goes on the plane anyway. He leaves, distraught and goes back to Monica and Chandler's apartment, finding a message from Rachel saying that she has decided to get off the plane, as he hangs up the phone, he turns around and Rachel is standing in the door, they kiss and in doing so, end the huge relationship struggle that plagued the series throughout. For any fan of the series this is an absolutely perfect ending, which nicely resolves almost everything set up in previous episodes.
