History and location
Overview
It is now an independent, four-year university which offers higher education at baccalaureate and master-level.
The college enjoys a suburban setting in the pleasant countryside of the Kittatinny Mountains, and is is a fully accredited member of the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
Centenary College, NJ, was founded in 1867, and was originally a preparatory school which admitted both sexes. however, by 1910 it had changed into a girls' preparatory school.
That was not the end of the school's evolution.
By 1940, Centenary had become a junior college for women before changing again in 1976 to become a four-year college for women.
The college changed again in 1988, evolving into a coeducational baccalaureate-degree-granting institution, before finally achieving its current status as a masters-degree-granting college in 1995.
The main campus of the college is situated in Hackettstown, New Jersey, a Victorian-era village in Warren County.
Only fifty miles or so from New York City, the college is also only a two-hour drive from Philadelphia.
There are satellite campuses in Parsippany, N.J., Iselin, N.J., as well as a range of corporate locations.

The college serves around 2,900 students via a range of programs.
The campus is blessed with some hi-tech facilities, including laptop computers for all full-time traditional students, 31 multimedia-equipped classrooms with teacher stations and smart board-equipped classrooms.
There is also the opportunity to play for or support a host of sports teams at Centenary.
Teams are members of NCAA Division III, as well as the ECAC, CSAC and MIWA.
There are 13 intercollegiate teams in total, with men's teams competing at baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer and wrestling.
The college's women's teams compete in basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, softball and volleyball.
Centenary College has a good location for any students who are interested in outdoor activities.
With the main campus just a few miles from 1100 acre Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
Reflecting its Methodist heritage, the college was one of the first in New Jersey to insist upon educational service as a condition of graduation.
