How to get backstage passes at a gig?

Being backstage during the concert of your favourite artist or band, can be a fantastic experience you may never forget for the rest of your life. These passes are hard to come by, but with these pointers you might have a shot at getting one.

Through the band

The best way to secure a backstage pass is by knowing someone in the band or close to the artist. If this person or group is not yet well known, you have a good chance of being able to meet them. Check out whether they are promoting something like a new CD at a store. You can then strike up a conversation with a band member or the manager. Tip: - Don't act weird. Fanatic fans will be less likely to get a backstage pass than someone who just appreciates the music.
- Don't act too starstruck - keep in mind that this might put them off. Once you get over those initial nerves that come with meeting someone you admire, you will be okay.

Find a fanclub

Lots of musicians and groups have fan clubs. If you join a fan club, you can be among the first to learn where the gigs will be held. Tip to draw the attention of an artist
If you have a specific reason why you would like to be backstage, post it on the message boards. Artists often check out what their fans are writing.

Enter prize draws

Backstage passes often get given away by radio stations or through online prize draws. All you have to do is enter a competition or answer a question. It may seem like a long shot, but someone does win. If you are lucky, that person could be you.

Talk to the crew

If you have not been able to secure a backstage access pass before the concert, give it one last try on the evening of the gig. Tips - You can show up early and try and befriend the crew who are setting up the stage. - You could offer to give them a hand, or just chat to them when they have a break. - You could ask them if there is room for one more meet and greet. Remember that you have nothing to lose, so let them know what you want. There is no time to act shy and beat around the bush. If they like you and there is still room to give away a VIP pass, they just might give it to you.
