Web texting is a way of sending cheap SMS messages over the internet. This is handy if you have run out of credit on your mobile and want to send mass SMS messages or for keeping a record of messages to retrieve later. So, how do you do it and how easy is it to do?

Personal

Most mobile phone companies offer a service that allows you to send an SMS message over the internet. Very often you get a certain amount of free texts to use every month. You need an online account with your mobile provider and, once this has been created, you send your messages in the form of an SMS email. Just type out your message and the number to send it to. Internet texting is that easy!

Business

Business SMS messages work in the same way. Some businesses offer an online messaging service for their employees to either maintain contact with each other or other companies. It works exactly the same as a personal internet text service but is designed for business use/networking. Business internet text messaging is a very easy SMS server to use and incredibly handy for use in the business world.

Advantages

Internet SMS services are very useful as a back-up for phone texting. They are cheap or free to use and, very importantly, it is easy for use, even for technophobes such as me. It is also useful for sending SMS bulk messages to a number of different people at the same time because it is quick and easy to select a number of mobile numbers to send to. Obviously, bulk texts are a good way of maintaining a conversation with multiple people and internet SMS providers are a good way to do this.

Limitations

However, there are limitations to using SMS computer services. For example, mobile texting is perfect for people on the move. Mobile messaging isn’t really possible with internet SMS solutions because, even though using the internet has become more mobile with the advent of Wi-Fi systems etc, you can’t always have a laptop with you but chances are you will always have a phone on you. Also, you can’t send phone pictures via internet message SMS services without first connecting your mobile up to your laptop and this wastes precious messaging time when you can simply send your picture using your phone.
