Here is a guide to all that you will need to know in order to write for this successful website.

What is "Twisting the Hellmouth"?

As any dedicated Buffy fan will tell you, "Twisting the Hellmouth" (TtH) is a website archiving over 20 000 fan-fiction stories. It specialises in work combining popular television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its lesser known spin-off, Angel. Fan-fiction is a popular genre of writing in which avid film and movie buffs create their own stories using much loved characters from existing series. Whilst 75% of the work on TtH is Buffy fan-fiction, the site also hosts work relating to other popular films, television and comic series including Harry Potter, Star Wars, Twilight and CSI. "Twisting the Hellmouth" features work by almost 3000 authors. If you want to be one of them, there are a number of guidelines that need to be adhered to.

Site guidelines

The site allows fan-fiction in the form of stories, art and poetry. Essays, story outlines and non fan-fiction pieces are not permitted. All entries, with the exception of fanart, must be a minimum of 100 words. When using real life people as characters in a story, it is important to adhere to the following guidelines: - Celebrities may be only used within the context of that which they are famous for. Other members of the public must only appear if the author has obtained their permission. - Real people should be portrayed respectfully and must never engage in sexual or romantic behaviour within the course of a story. Similarly, characters representing real people must never voice their opinion, particularly regarding controversial topics. Sexually explicit material is permitted, but must include a warning in the disclaimer. It is also important for contributors to note that the following authors do not allow their work to be used for fanfiction: Anne Rice, Anne Bishop, Anne McCaffrey, Diana Gabaldon and George Martin.
