What is a blog ?

overblog

The word "blog" comes from weblog which in reality means an internet journal, or diary. Often defined as a personal web site, it is in fact a personal space where people can express themselves. The idea is to give the possibility to anyone who wants to, to establish an online presence (end users, companies, artists, politicians, organisations...)

Why create a blog?

A blog allows you to communicate and exchange ideas with other people on the internet. You can also deliver information about anything you want. That way, bloggers can share their passion, talk about news, things that are important to them or simply discuss areas of interest. A blog is a real communication tool.

How does it work?

Articles are published in antichronological format (the latest post is the first one you see on the home page). This enables readers to react on the given theme by posting their comments about the article. The process creates a special relationship between the author of the item and the readers.
Anyone can create a blog! Even if you do not have extensive computer knowledge. The platform www.over-blog.com has been devised in order to give blogging access to as many people as possible. The Help forum is also there to assist you in getting started and to inform you about the modifications possible on OverBlog.

A few examples of different blog categories

  • The travel blog

Students in foreign countries, or expats who wish to communicate via their blog about their lives far away from home. It's also a great opportunity to keep friends and relatives informed about what's going on.

  • The photo blog

Essentially made up of images (amateur or professional), this kind of blog lets passionate artists express themselves. There are many ways to organise this kind of content.

  • The political blog

Many politicians have become avid bloggers. A blog is the ideal tool to communicate and be present on the internet: it gives a certain proximity and accessibility element to a politician.

  • The news blog

Many internet users are true news hounds. They relish the opportunity to reference information and this category of blog provides the right tools to create a space entirely dedicated to debating the issues making news.

  • The diary blog

Maybe a personal diary or just a space to talk freely. It also gives the opportunity to younger people, such as aspiring journalists perhaps, to actually publish content and get feedback on the their publications.

  • The passion blog

This blog talks about everything bloggers love. Artists, travelers, car aficionados, Russian doll collectors, there is no limit... Share your interests with other internet users.

  • The CV blog: a key to who you are

Transform your blog into a professional tool. Putting a CV online enables you to go more in depth than on paper. Share greater detail, knowledge, know-how, experiences, or simply anything that defines who you are professionally.

  • The blog as a corporate communication tool

A blog provides a more dynamic aspect to a corporate interface, but also serves as an additional means to publish information and make something public. It also can help smaller companies establish an online presence without necessarily having the complex knowledge required to create a site.

Some companies use the blogging system as an internal communication tool as well as a space to discuss the development of projects where employees can interact at will.
