Cricket is a wireless phone company focusing on affordable calling plans, and do not require long term contracts as most cell phone companies do. Once you purchase a new Cricket phone, you have to activate it before you can start using it. You are also able to access the Web on Cricket cell phones, as long as you are signed up for that service and in their coverage area.
Activate a Cricket phone
Attach the phone charger to your Cricket cell phone, and plug it into a wall outlet. Allow it to charge overnight. Call Cricket at their customer service number, which you can find on their website or in your user guide, and choose the option to activate a new phone.
You need to use a different phone, either cell or land line. You will need to give the Cricket representative, either your Social Security number or driver’s license number to activate your phone.
Getting the new numbers
The Cricket representative will give you a Cricket mobile directory number (MDN), which is your new Cricket cell phone number. They will also give you a 5-digit CDMA system ID number, and a 10-digit Cricket mobile identification number (MIN). You will need to write this information down. Press the red Power button on the Cricket cell phone to turn it on. Press *228 on the keyboard and press the Send button. You will be prompted to enter the three numbers you wrote down from the step above. Follow the instructions of the voice prompts to finish activating your phone. Once finished, you can begin using your new Cricket phone.
