Founded as Rockford Female Seminary, Rockford College is a liberal arts focused college situated in Rockford, Michigan.

History and location

Overview
Men have been admitted to the college since the 1950s.
Nobel Peace Prize winner Jane Addams, the first American woman to to be given the award, was a member of the class of 1881 at Rockford.
Decus et Veritas (Honour & Truth) is the college's motto. Established in 1847 as Rockford Female Seminary, Rockford College's first campus was located south of downtown Rockford on the east side of the Rock River.
The name changed to Rockford College in 1892, after the seminary's trustees voted to offer a full college curriculum. In 1849, the seminary's first principal, Miss Anna Peck Sill, led the college's first classes.
These took place in a former county courthouse which was located on North First Street.
This building had already undergone one previous transformation from a horse barn.
Construction began in 1852 on the original eight-acre site of the college.
Location
The campus is approximately 90 minutes drive from Chicago, as well as Wisconsin cities Milwaukee and Madison.
The town of Rockford itself is a town in northern Illinois, home to approximately 150,000 people.
Nicknamed 'The Forest City', it is the third most populous city in the state of Illinois after Chicago and Aurora.

Learning and lifestyle

Degrees
The college offers several Bachelor's degrees, whether BA, BS, BSMS, BFA or BSN.
These are available in areas such as education, English, art & art history and philosophy, as well as sciences such as biology and biochemistry, chemistry and computer science. Programs
As well as its undergraduate programs, the college also offers pre-professional programs in pre-law, pre-medicine and related areas.
There are also two graduate programmes on offer to students, these being a Master of Arts in Teaching and Master of Business Administration Staff and activities
There are 65 full-time members of the faculty, and a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa exists at the college.
The college competes in a number of sports in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
The Rockford College Regents field men's teams in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis and track and field.

Women's teams are fielded in basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball.
