A guide to buying satin bed sheets

Satin that is natural and not man-made is made from silk. Silk is a fabric with a long history that dates back to the 27th century BC. It was not until the 6th century that the crafting of silk came to Europe and the rest of the world. While first made in China, making satin from silk began to be made elsewhere as well. Satin was used for clothing and for bedsheets and other more. When buying bedsheets, there are some things to keep in mind.

Price

When buying bed sets made of satin, you will have to keep in mind that the price for this beautiful bedding will be more than for bedding made from other bedding materials. This is because of the fabric as well as for the quality of the stitching and other considerations. Since satin and silk are more expensive, then bedding made from these fabrics are more expensive than those made of cotton. If the satin bed sheets are cheap, then this may be because the sheets are knitted instead of woven and are of poor quality.

Waiting

Satin sheets are not usually pre-made. The sheets that are pre-made are generally those of lower quality. Order the sheets that you wish to have made, specify the size as well as the number of pillow cases. The sheets will be custom-made and may take up four weeks to make and have it shipped to you or the store from which you made the order. Sheets that are advertised as being ready to ship are usually knit, which is a lesser quality satin sheet.

How to order

Often, satin sheets are sold separately and not as a set. Make sure that you order the number of sheets that you want as well as the number of pillow cases that you would like. For example, if you have four pillows, make sure that you order enough cases for all of them and not just the two that are the usual number of a standard bed set. Make sure, if you have a thicker mattress, that you order extra deep pockets for the fitted sheets. This is necessary because the satin fabric will not stretch as it is woven. It might be a good idea to order extra sheets (flat or fitted) that are in the same colour, just in case one of the sheets gets damaged.
