A review of Hi-Q tyres

There are 296 Hi-Q centres across the UK. Some centres carry out MOTs and services as well as selling tyres from brands like Goodyear, Dunlop, Fulda and Sava. They stock 4x4 tyres and other specialist rubber like RunOnFlat and Cold weather tyres.

Goodyear, Dunlop, Fulda and Sava

Goodyear and Dunlop Hi-Q centres sell four brands of tyre. The top of their range are Goodyear and Dunlop who provide high performance and ultra high performance tyres using technology honed at some of the world’s most demanding race tracks. Goodyear Eagle F1 The Goodyear Eagle F1 series uses information gathered during decades of success in Formula One. As you would expect, they are designed to provide grip when corning and accelerating. However, they are also engineered for safety. These tyres use ActiveBraking technology to reduce the braking distance in wet and dry conditions. The tyre tread includes a 3D block design which increases the contact patch under braking and saves seconds in an emergency stop. Fulda tyres The mid ranges Fulda tyres combine safety, performance and value. They are one of the leading manufacturers in Germany and their range is designed for the majority of cars, with the exception of 4x4s and high performances sports cars. Sava tyres Sava tyres are the most reasonably priced tyre in the Hi-Q range. They offer tyres for everyday motoring at a low price, which makes their tyres attractive in today’s recession hit marketplace.

Cold weather tyres

Cold weather tyres are designed to work at temperatures below 7°C. However, there is no loss of performance in normal conditions. They provide shorter stopping distances on icy, wet or snow covered roads and reduce the chance of aquaplaning on wet roads.

RunOnFlat tyres

RunOnFlat tyres allow a car to be driven after a puncture or blow out. They are equipped with a toughened sidewall which makes sure that the sidewalls do not collapse when the tyre is losing air. With RunOnFlat tyres, drivers can drive approximately 50 miles at around 50mph, which could mean getting home or getting to a Hi-Q centre for a replacement, without having to change the wheel. Drivers are often unaware that the tyre is punctured and running on the toughened sidewall. So, tyre manufacturers only recommend fitting RunOnFlat to cars with Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems installed.
