A review of Verizon cable's services

There are so many Internet services, and so many differences between them. This article will be a review of Internet service provided by Verizon, and it will discuss the various plans available from Verizon, and which one is the best for you. Please note that the Verizon service availability differs by area, and so does quality. This means that before ordering the service, you should also ask others in your area to make sure that they too have satisfactory opinions on it!

The types of service

Verizon.com offers DSL and Verizon FIOS. While DSL is considerably slower and location-dependent, it is cheaper than the lightning fast Verizon FIOS fiber optic Internet service. DSL Verizon normally offers two different speeds of DSL for residential customers. The first is "up to 768 kbps". This is their cheapest plan, and it is adequate to play online games, but cannot stream shows in HD, etc. Their second type of DSL is "up to 3mbps". This is about six times faster than the plan previously mentioned, and while it is a bit more expensive, if you tend to use services like Netflix, then it is well worth it. It is capable of streaming HD movies and playing more advanced online games. Cable/FIOS Verizon FIOS is by far the most advanced Internet service offered by them. Some of its customers have reported speeds surpassing 50mbps. While this still has a somewhat limited availability, it is excellent if you regularly have to upload large files onto the Internet, and is capable of any Internet service. Recently, Verizon has also offered this in a plan similar to Comcast's "Triple Play", which makes it a much lower price when bought in conjunction with television plans and phone plans.

Service in my experience

The type of Verizon Internet that I had was the 3mbps DSL plan. I have had this for about three years after switching from the cheapest plan from them. On the cheapest plan, I dealt with frustrating speeds while trying to watch shows on the Internet and playing Xbox games. Once I uploaded to 3mbps, I was satisfied. There is little to no down-time on their network, and when it does go down due to storms, Verizon always assures me that they have engineers on the site working to get the problem solved. Verizon is a great provider, and it shows in their track record.
