All about: Equipment for strongman training

There is more to strongman training than just dumbbells and countless repetitions. Proper equipment is needed, so that conditioning exercises done for strongman training work.

What is strongman training?

In the past, strongman training was simply a way of developing sheer strength, which was measured by the maximum bench repetitions that a person could do. The higher the amount, the stronger the person was, though they only had to do one repetition. Nowadays, things are much different, and strongman training has evolved into a sport of its own. Strongmen work out differently, and there are no rules to how a strongman can do an exercise, or which exercise they can or cannot do. The whole idea of strongman training is to toughen an athlete both mentally and physically, so that they are complete athletes, not just the strongest player on the field.

Equipment for strongman training

Generally, since there are no rules for strongman training, any combination of equipment can be used, and any amount of repetitions or sets can be done on any machine. Strongman training is extremely open-ended in that respect, but it can be hard for a beginner to figure out just what they need to buy or find where to begin strongman training. The following list is just a general idea of what is recommended, and is in no way complete. None of these items are essential, and you need to make sure that using these machines and tools is safe medically, from a licensed physician, and physically, that the tools and machines are in good working order. - A thick, strong metal log is a great idea, because it can be used as barbells, and can be used in order to strengthen the grip. They can also be used for overhead pressing, which is invaluable for strongman training. - A pushing/dragging sled is a great way to increase strength and endurance, and is usually a staple in strongman training. - Large dumbbells, sometimes called fat dumbbells, are great for increasing arm and hand strength while increasing grip strength. - A squat bar is a good idea as well, as it works the lower body and legs, while doing squats, walking lunges, and good mornings.
