All about: Graduate jobs in advertising
Looking at possible careers in advertising? Learn two of the most popular ones right from this article and find out what they do in their work. Like the idea of being involved in a campaign? See if you have what it takes to succeed in this industry.
Being a copywriter
What does a copywriter do? The copywriter is one of the most important people in the world of advertising. Copywriting may be obvious in print work but it is also used in other media, where people say their lines. The idea is selling through words, whether spoken or otherwise. Indeed, the right words can hit the right emotional buttons and persuade the target audience to the intended action. How is the pay? A beginning copywriter is paid a fixed salary and is often busy. When more and more of your work make your clients money, you start to enjoy a certain fame. You become known as a copywriter who sells. That is when your income increases. In fact, the top ones enjoy a six-figure yearly income.
Being an accounts manager
What does an accounts manager do? A media and advertising company usually has positions for accounts manager. This has nothing to do with accounting. An accounts manager is in fact, in charge of sales accounts. This person is a key liaison between his/her company and the client. He/she informs the copywriter, designers and so on, what the client wants. Occasionally, he/she does cold calling for new businesses. He/she is mostly based in the office but sometimes, he/she travels to the client's office to do a presentation. This is especially so for prospective new clients. How is the pay? The pay is not so different from what you would expect of a graduate in other industries to start with. There is an opportunity of a good pay raise as you progress if you often have to work late. You may occasionally have to travel overseas too, if your company has projects abroad.
A final tip
It is well known that jobs in advertising are busy ones. For example, the client may not provide the team with sufficient time to complete a project. Let's say that the client provided the remaining information last Friday and still request that the annual report be completed by Monday. You should also communicate well with your co-workers and the client.
