It includes articles and features from well-known experts, news and competitions. The magazine

Readership and content Horse & Rider is a magazine accompanied by a website aimed at people who are interested in ponies and horses. It currently retails at around £3.80, but it has a website derived from it that gives much of the information in the magazine. It deals with the general horse and pony lover, so it is not a specialist racing magazine, though there are news reports and articles on competitions. Experts The magazine intends to be an authoritative voice for ordinary riders, so it commissions articles from experts in various equestrian fields. These may include successful sports riders in show jumping or dressage, etc, but the magazine is strong on advice. A section entitlted "Ask a Vet" gives advice to concerned owners. "Management know how" explains solutions to problems in dealing with horses, and "In the Saddle" brings experienced trainers in to give advice. Breeders might be called to advise on horse breeding. Interest Horse & Rider has a range of stories that appeal to people with equestrian interests, and there are competitions offering prizes, usually riding gear of various kinds. The magazine is strong on high quality horse photographs.

Shop

An important element of the magazine is its shop, which sells anything that appeals to people with equestrian interests. There are adverts for properties with stables and/or paddocks. There are frequent horse ads offering horses for sale, giving riders and owners the opportunity to sell their animals. A wide range of gear is available on the site. There is a special section dealing with team gear. All goods selected for sale are chosen for being of high quality. The clothing range extends from children to adults. The range of the shop extends to equestrian literature. Books are sold, as well as DVDs and audio CDs. It offers some training DVDs. There are also games. A young riders section offers books, dvds etc of interest to young riders from junior age [e.g. Buttons the Naughty Pony] upwards to books aimed at a teenage readership.
