Saint Francis was founded in in 1932, and is a private, not for profit health system. The facilities include St Francis Downtown Greenville, St. Francis east-side, St Francis Institute for Chronic Health, St. Francis Outpatient Centre and Up-state Surgery Centre.
Sisters of Bon Secours
Founded January 24, 1984 after the French Revolution, twelve women came together to form the congregation of the Sisters of Bon Secours.
Bon Secours is French for 'good help'.
In 1881, they were invited to Baltimore by the Archdiocese of Baltimore to establish a care ministry in Baltimore, Maryland.
The Sisters of Bon Secours provided the world's first recorded formal home health care service as well as the first day care facility in Baltimore in 1907, helping working mothers whose only alternative was to place their children in orphanages.
The Sisters established their first hospital in Baltimore in 1919, and opened their second in Gross Pointe, Michigan in 1945.
The Bon Secours Health System was formed in 1983 to "provide skilled, unified management and professional resources for all Bon Secours health care operations while preserving Jesus' healing mission and Bon Sercours' tradition of providing quality care to all, especially the poor, sick and dying"
