Civilian military jobs: The facts

Commonly known as just ‘the army’, the British Army is the land warfare branch of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces (also known as the British Armed Forces) and part of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). In this article, facts are given about the different MoD vacancies, particularly civilian military jobs.

Different roles and where they can be found

There are three thronged military service of the UK comprising the army itself, the Naval Service and the Royal Air Force. As of August 2010, the army comprised a reported 39,420 volunteers and 194,440 professional or regular troops. Army careers information There are many different available roles in the army. These range from soldier, to nurse, driver, dentist, HR, electrician, tailor to fitness instructor. Some of the most well-known jobs are paratroopers who deal with conflict from the air or that start from airborne positions, commandos who are involved in conflict particularly in extreme environments, those who drive transport in combat and those who provide supporting fire. Engineering jobs There are many engineering jobs in the army such as armoured engineers who maintain and operate armoured vehicles, electricians and weapons artificer who inspect and repair weapons. This job category also includes the extremely high-risk, adrenalised job of bomb disposal which was the subject of the critically acclaimed, Oscar-winning film, Hurt Locker.
