Battery operated Battery powered energisers are the next best alternative and required when there is no power source nearby. They are available in many sizes and run off 6,9 and 12 volt batteries. 12 volt batteries that are used in cars or boats are the best type to use although they can be operated using D-cell batteries that operate torches or flashlights. The bigger the battery, the longer they last and the more volts are created. Solar powered fences This type of energiser is needed when none of the above alternatives are available. An electric fence installation fed off solar power contains a battery for energy storage with the solar panel collecting its energy directly from the sun.
