How to become a PC technician

There are a few things that you need to do in order to become a full fledged PC technician, the most important of which is to get certified. With a certification, it would be much easier for you to get jobs and acquire much needed experience in the field. Hence, this article will give information on how to become a PC technician.

Steps in becoming a PC technician

1) Acquaint yourself with everything you can about your computer. Determine the steps involved in installing and uninstalling programs, learn how to repair devices and memorise options and tools that are found in all Windows systems and programs. 2) Enrol in a basic PC repair course in preparation for the CompTIA certification as an A+ PC repairman. There are two kinds of certifications, one in hardware and one in software. Generally, it is recommended that you take both. If you have the time, enrol in full-time classes which typically can take a couple of weeks to finish. On the other hand, if you're unable to devote yourself fully into studies, sign up for a part-time class. Be prepared to set aside time for study during weekends. 3) Each time you learn a new skill in class, make it a point to apply and practise it in a real PC. If you're not keen on using your current computer for practice, it is fine to use an old computer as an alternative as long as it has a respectable speed and has sufficient memory to operate Windows 2000. 4) Once you are done with your PC training course and are confident with your PC troubleshooting skills and know-how, you can proceed to take the CompTIA A+ PC software and hardware certification test. 5) Pass the certification test and then, continue on applying your skills in the real world. Look for work in PC repair shops in your area, or volunteer to help repair basic computer issues at your local club, church, or even in your workplace, if possible. 6) Continue applying for PC technician jobs. Check the classifieds ads and internet job sites for vacancies. Many staffing agencies employ certified IT technicians to fix ATM machines or install point of sale (POS) systems. Scout for such jobs in your locale.
