Fabric type

The fabric of the duvet set is the first consideration. The duvet set can be made of cotton, linen, satin and wool. If using cotton, the fabric can be Egyptian cotton, percale which is a closely woven fabric, flannel which is a "twill weave" fabric that is napped on one side, jersey which is a knit fabric, sateen which has a soft feel and more "yarn surface", pima and supaima which are the highest grades of cotton. The cheap duvets and sets may be made of fabric that is not of high quality and may have a slight roughness to the touch. The kingsize bedding and duvet cover may also be made of a blend of fabrics that can include polyester as well as cotton.

Thread count and ply

The term thread count refers to the number of threads woven together in a square inch of the fabric. Fabric that is made of fine threads might yield a higher thread count due to the number or threads present per square inch. This fabric may also feel softer to the touch. The fabric can also be of one or two ply. The ply, in this case, refers to the thread itself. If a single thread consists of two wound around each other, then this constitutes two ply thread. Single ply thread is finer whereas two ply thread is heavier.

Stitching

The stitching of the king-size duvet set should be examined as well. When the duvet set is well made, it will have straight, fine and even stitching. For sets that are less expensive, the stitching will suffer. You may find wider stitches, sloppiness, looseness, and perhaps even mistakes. These low quality of stitching will not only affect the aesthetics of the king-size duvet kit, but its longevity as well. The stitching is what holds the set together. If the stitching isi not good quality, the duvet set could fall apart with wear.
