How to find a job as a relationship manager
Businesses hire client and business relationship managers to establish and maintain good relations with customers and the business community to ensure a positive reputation and increase profit. This article explains how and where to find a relationship manager job.
What is a relationship manager?
Relationship managers are individuals hired to improve business relationships and relationships with customers. Maintaining positive relationships both with customers and in the business community establishes a good reputation, which is why many companies hire both Client Services Managers (CSM) and Business Relationship Managers (BRM).
Customer service duties
While some in customer services careers or customer services manager jobs have started calling themselves as “relationship managers”, this title is reserved for individuals hired to fit the job description. However, the customer service duties, especially customer service management, may provide the necessary background to move into a relationship manager position.
Business relationships
Relationship managers examine relationships from a scientific point of view, defining, quantifying and analysing business relationships so that companies can gain greater control over something previously considered intangible and impossible to manage. Relationship managers break relationships down into components to inform the business on strategies to improve their relationships resulting in greater profit.
Criticism
This goal has lead to criticism, as it is argued that businesses ultimately aren’t attempting to improve relationships to satisfy customers or interact more constructively with other businesses, but to earn more profits. Others have asserted that relationships can’t be quantified, so what is being assessed are not relationships, but popularity.
Where to find relation management jobs
Skills required for this job Prior to searching for jobs, it is important that you are aware of what type of relationship you are skilled at managing and the management area on which you are focused. For example, corporate relationships managers may be responsible for an individual corporation, while in other settings, managers are responsible for maintaining relationships with multiple companies. Employment search engines To find relationship manager jobs, one place to start is the major employment search engines such as Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com or whatever is available in your country. Many sites allow you to enter search terms for type of position or specific locations or areas. If you have a list of companies where you are interested in working, the best strategy is to search the company's website for employment openings or call their Human Resources department to see if there are any new positions that aren’t listed yet. If nothing is available, send them your resume, asking that it is kept on file for future openings and check it back regularly.
