How to find a job in Dallas

Dallas proper, nicknamed ‘Big D', is the third-largest city in Texas with a population of 1.2 million. The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area is the largest in South and 4th largest in the US. Therefore, there are many jobs in the area, which I will detail in this article.

Economy and businesses

Economy Dallas grew to a city of economic and industrial importance as a centre of the oil and cotton industries and as an agricultural centre. Today, Dallas’ economy is largely modern, based as it is on commerce, banking, telecommunications, computer technology, energy and transportation. It is home to many Fortune 500 companies and one of the top 10 busiest airports in the world in Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. It has thus been named a world city – a city with particular global significance for its industries. Businesses Dallas’ metropolitan area has one of the largest concentrations of corporate headquarters for publicly traded companies in the states, with 20 Fortune 500 companies headquartered there (and 12 in Dallas proper). These include Comerica Bank, AT&T, Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, Radioshack and Neiman Marcus.
How to get jobs in these companies To get these jobs in Dallas companies, one can look on job's websites, the companies’ own websites, jobs directories or, if one is lucky enough to have connections in the company, hear about/get vacancies through them. Entry-level jobs in these companies such as sales, security, low-level admin or, in the case of the airlines career, check-in, do not necessarily need a university education. To get the ‘higher up’, managerial jobs in these companies, however, a degree can really help, although it may be possible to get these by working one’s way up from the proverbial bottom.

Retail and sports jobs

The city is also home to more shopping centres per head than any other American city and the second oldest in the states in Highland Park Village. The two other biggest shopping centres are the Dallas Galleria and the NorthPark centre, the latter being the second-largest in Texas. To get jobs in these places, one does not normally require a university education. One can look in the stores for job vacancies or online on their own website or recruitment websites. Sport jobs Dallas is also a hotbed for professional sport, with its metropolitan area being one of the thirteen American cities which houses teams in the major leagues of the ‘four major sports’ in the US: baseball (Rangers), American football (Cowboys), ice hockey (Stars) and basketball (Mavericks). This creates many Texas jobs, such as stewards, cheerleaders, sales people, administrative staff, coaches and managers. These jobs can be found on the club’s websites among other places.
