Hair colour adds to one’s personality and appearance significantly. Hair, being one of the most prominent parts of our looks, needs to compliment our features, face, complexion, age, and body type. There are several hair services available in most salons such as hair colouring, hair straightening, hair curling, hair styling, and hair conditioning treatments. Hair colouring is the most popular among them all. This article provides a guide to getting highlights for hair.
About hair colours
Most people are born with their natural colour that can either be black, brown, brunette, red, or blond. Since everyone looks for a change in their look, hair colour professionals have designed different hair shades to choose from. One can opt for either a global hair colour or full-length hair colour. You can also choose hair colour highlights. People with black hair can lighten their hair by using brown highlights, red highlights, and blond highlights as these colours will tend to appear more striking compared to the violets or mahoganies. If you have dark colour, then you will need to lighten your hair first, or strip the dark pigments to lift the existing colour to a lighter base shade. Then, you can apply your desired shade to get the exact shade as in the colour palette. If you do not lighten your hair, you will not get the exact shade and your colour will not look as light as you would want it to be. Usually, colour technicians or stylists at the salon will strip your hair colour using hair bleach.
Safety in hair colouring
Ensure you ask your stylist if this is safe for your existing hair condition or not. Some people are allergic to colour chemicals, and you should take a patch test first before applying colour. Your stylist will ask you if you have any allergies and will check your scalp to see if it has any abrasions or eruptions to avoid serious allergies that may even require hospitalization in severe cases. The patch test is done by placing a small amount of the colour onto your inner elbow area or behind the ear. Then, it is left for 40-45 minutes. Within this period, if you experience irritation, swelling or redness, you will not be allowed to undergo the colouring treatment. There are many salon-used colours or home-used colours available. You can also opt for ammonia-free colours which are comparatively better for the hair. Use colour protection shampoos and conditioners to ensure long-lasting shine and colour for your hair.
