Pros and cons of using pay as you go mobile phones

When looking to buy a cellphone, the first thing you have to consider is whether or not you want to be locked into a particular contract or whether you want to be relatively unconstrained by one company or another and get a pay as you go mobile phone. The pros and cons of entering into a contract are fairly obvious, but what are the true pros and cons of using pay as you go?

Pros

There are plenty of mobile companies which allow you to get pay as you go phones and while these used to be incredibly expensive, companies are starting to realise that having the customers at all are better than not having them because of prohibitive costs. Companies like 3 Mobile Phones and Phones4you are both UK based phone companies which give very good deals on contract free phones. Free pay as you go plans are some of the best plans out there if you do not want to get tied up in a plan which will have early termination fees.

Cons

While companies like Phones4you UK, have cell phone offers which are pay as you go and will not break the bank, the main drawback with not entering into a service contract is that the actual phone will cost more. Many mobile phone companies offset the cost of cell phones which can cost hundreds of dollars on their own by having contracts which guarantee the company has a guaranteed income with the contracts. For some UK mobile companies, the mobile phone tariffs can actually be increased if you are not using a contract as these are also lessened because the company will actually pick up the tariffs, or some of the tariffs for loyal contract customers. Protection One of the other major cons which comes along with using pay as you go services within the mobile phone industry is as a general rule, the phone companies will not offer free replacements or warranties which last as long. Entering into a contract can also be a way to show the wireless companiesthat you are a loyal customer and because of this the company is more apt to help you if the phone breaks down.
