The destination is easily entered with the touch-screen, but unlike other sat nav devices, the Smartnav gives you the option of speaking to an operator over the phone, who will look up a destination on your behalf and send it to your device. Although, this service is ideal if you break down on the roadside or need any type of emergency assistance, it can be used to find the nearest takeaway restaurant or petrol station. This system is also available as an application for smart phones. The Traffic Master Companion Mobile application can be downloaded to the iPhone and any other phones with GPS capability.

Real time traffic information

The device also warns you of upcoming congestion zones and toll roads, to help you avoid them where possible. And, before you drive, you can get a head start on other motorists by calling Traffic Master for live traffic reports. This information is generated by 5,200 traffic flow monitoring sensors which cover 100 per cent of UK motorways and 95 per cent of truck roads and infra-red speed measuring sensors, which record motorway speeds to monitor how the road is flowing.

Trackstar

Trackstar is a GPS tracking unit which can be used to locate a vehicle in the event of it being stolen. Once a stolen vehicle is located, the system will track it and liaise with the police. If a vehicle is moved without the use of its key, a signal is sent to Trackstar to notify them. They contact the vehicle’s owner immediately and begin to track the car. Trackstar is the only system of its type that has approved status with manufacturers like BMW, Range Rover and Jaguar. It’s available for business or personal use and is approved for installation throughout the automotive industry in the UK.
