The Self Storage Association or SSA is a tax-exempt, non-profit organisation that was established in the year 1975. The association has been representing both the international and US self storage industry for over 35 years. SSA forwards the requests and sentiments of the industry not only to the US Congress, but also to the concerned federal agencies and departments. The association is very active in representing the industry before state regulatory and legislative bodies. The SSA is also connected to around 27 regional and state associations in the US, and four international organisations that represent thousands of self storage facilities located in Latin America, Europe, South America , Australia, Asia, and Canada. Organisation The SSA is being governed by a 12-member Board of Directors, in addition to ex officio seats that represent the offices of the General Counsel and the President and CEO. The Board conducts meetings every quarter, while the Executive Committee has more frequent meetings. The association employs ten professionals that are stationed in Alexandria, Virginia. The yearly budget of the association typically ranges from $4 million to $5 million.
