Denise: Typist

Denise used to work as a secretary for a large company. When she was made redundant, she decided to try working as a freelance typist from home. She started off by asking local businesses for work and then, she advertised in the local papers and online. It was a slow going process, as most work from home businesses are, but the work soon began flowing in. She was reliable and completed the work on time. So, she was able to get a lot of repeat business. She could work when her children were at school. She could spend more time with the family than it had been possible with her previous job.

Sue: Craft worker

Sue had young children who needed her. She found it difficult to get a regular job and to cater for them at the same time. However, she loved all types of craft work. She made all her children's clothes, she knitted and she made rugs. She even tried her hand at jewellery making. Soon, her friends began to ask her to make things for them and she was asked to help to run a craft group in her village. She realised that she could use this as a way of making money. It started off merely as a way of making a little extra money from home. Nonetheless, she soon began to go to craft fairs and to get work from the Internet as well.
