Seashore The U.S. has over 12,000 miles of coastline, about 5,000 of which are in the continental U.S. In the lower 48, there are coastlines in the east and west and on the Gulf of Mexico. Florida and California are the states with the most coastline and the most recreation sites. Mountains The Rocky Mountains of the west have many peaks over 10,000 feet. In the east, the Appalachians reach over 6,000 feet, topped by Mount Mitchell in North Carolina. For hiking places in the mountains, search "U.S. geologic maps." Cities The U.S. is dotted with great cities. For maps of particular cities, search "map of (enter city name)."

Los Angeles area Los Angeles is blessed with good weather all year. With proximity to the attraction of Disneyland as well as Hollywood, and on an ocean that provides swimming and surfing, Los Angeles is a tourist destination. New York The Big Apple is one of the great cities of the world. Broadway is just one of the many attractions. The city is also near the beaches of Long Island which are crowded in summer. Miami Miami is an international city with heavy Cuban influence. South Beach on Miami Beach has become a tourist attraction. The hotels are crowded all year but especially in the winter. Disney World Disney World near Olrando, Florida, is a huge tourist destination. The Disney-Universal complex has been augmented by a great many attractions. The weather is nice in winter, hot in summer. The attractions are crowded all year. New Orleans The city of New Orleans is unique with its creole influence and history of musical excellence. The city was devastated in 2005 by two hurricanes but has since rebounded. It is especially lively during Mardi Gras in February. Washington, D.C. The seat of government of the most powerful nation in the world is a frequent tourist destination.
