VoIPnews.com is a news website and forum that specialises in the latest in Voice over Internet Protocol information. Its site has a smart Bulletin theme that has space for a forum, a front news page, and links to search for a VoIP provider for you. The main part of the site is a large press release section from different VoIP companies. This article will review the VoIP information site and rate it.
What's on the site
The front page When one first enters the site, he/she is taken to a page that looks like the front page of a newspaper website. It is filled with the latest press releases on everything to do with Voiceover IP, from security to IP telephony. All of the press releases are timely and released by professional companies. While not all of them are completely relevant to the home user, it can be very helpful if your job involves Voice over IP. One small complaint I had while browsing the site is that at some point, the news is not completely updated to what it could be. Additionally, because not all companies have official press releases, the administrator of the site writes articles about the happenings of VoIP for his front page. These articles are also well-written, and cover a broad range of topics. The forum The other main tab of the site is their forum. This forum was a disappointment, as it is not active except for press releases published by the major companies. There are many other VoIP discussion areas that could be much better used to learn about it. The front page of the site was much better than the forum. One plus, however, is that while the forum is not quite populated, it seems to be growing, and after reading the posts of regular members, they really do know what they are talking about.
The final verdict
After thoroughly examining the site, I would give it a score of 7/10. This is because while it had a nicely organised news page, it could be more updated. Additionally, the forum needs more population. The site is off to a very good start, but it just needs to get the ball rolling a bit more.
