What is in a DIY blood type test kit?

A DIY blood typing kit is exactly what it sounds like. It is a kit that allows you to discover your blood type in the privacy of your own home. In a matter of minutes, it can tell you whether you have type A blood or B and so on.

How it works and what’s in the box

Knowing your blood type and that of your loved ones may seem trivial, but if anything were to happen to them and they needed blood, you’ll wish you knew the answer. So here is a quick and convenient way to discover your blood type. It only take a few minutes to get the result. Everything you need to test the blood type of one person comes with the kit except, of course, the blood which you will have to supply. All it takes is a quick prick on the finger (made by an automatic lancet needle), a few drops of blood mixed with some water, and then the mixture is placed onto the special card that they provide. It will show antigens in the blood and you can use the chart provided to determine your blood group. You can also laminate the card and carry it with you so that you can show this to emergency services if the need ever arises.

What’s in the box?

Although there are a number of manufactures of home testing kits, the general contents of the box will remain the same. After all, they are all designed to do the same thing. · One or more Eldon cards, these are the special pieces of card that you put your sample onto and any card opened must be used on the same day. · Onw Eldon foil sheet - This is so that you can laminate the sample once it has dried. · Two to four Eldon sticks · One automatic lancet, a small plastic tube or similar shape that houses a fine needle. By depressing a button, it quickly fires the needle into the skin. · One swab and one cotton ball to clean your finger with. · One small plastic pipette to apply the mixture to the Eldoncard. · One Instruction sheet with all the details on how to perform the test and how to read it afterwards.
