What to look for in a case study template

To understand a case study template, one should first understand what a case study is. Anyone who is preparing a case study should be prepared to write one which is just like a good detective story. A case study should provide adequate information to the reader for analysis. So, what should you look for in a case study template?

Format and content

A case study format can be roughly divided into three sections namely – Introduction, Problems and or sub-problems, Analysis and discussion. The introduction provides insight into the various characteristics of the case study like the main concerns, the stakeholders, and the scope of investigation to be undertaken. The introduction also helps the reader understand the tools that may be required for analysis and data requirements for the case. The next stage is the problem statement. An analysis of problems are done either all at once, or broken down into several problem statements. Each problem or situation may have associated sub-situations. Sub-problems may require multiple analytical tools. Finally, the analysis and discussion section which helps a student or professor understand the method and approach to problem-solving. It helps a reader to understand the results and determine whether they are consistent, reasonable and meaningful. This section also deals with sensitivity analysis, feasibility of the results, presentation and possible application.

Templates and structure

Good case studies take the reader through several pieces of information and enable them to find appropriate solutions to the problem in the case. Unlike descriptions which are straightforward, a case study sometimes requires analytical and lateral thought patterns. Any case study template has several sections which a student needs to pay attention to. A good case study solution addresses the student’s understanding of the problem and the difficulties faced in solving it. Once the problem and approach are addressed, a detailed analysis and inferences need to be published. The proposed solutions and selection of the final solution is followed by a recommendation and conclusion to the study. References are an important part of a case study. If there are a large number of sources, a bibliography may be required. Time study formats Time study formats are very different from case study formats. Take an example of improving employee productivity. Here, the complex task is broken down into simpler ones. A case study is conducted on how to eliminate redundant or wasted effort and materials to ensure maximum productivity. A time study template is useful for measuring repetitive, discreet tasks.
