When is the weather at its best in Gran Canaria?

The island of Gran Canaria is part of the Canary Islands which, although, just off the coast of North Africa, are governed by Spain. The weather is an important part of any holiday abroad and Gran Canaria enjoys year-round warm weather, making it a perfect holiday destination at any time of the year.

Accomodation

The main tourist areas are Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés and Puerto Rico and this is where the main concentration of tourist attractions are found. There are hotel options to suit every budget, from basic rentals for students up to five star luxury spa resorts for those looking for some luxury in life. Flights from the UK are regular, especially during the summer months. What to see and do Apart from the beaches, there are many things to do on Gran Canaria such as the Aqualand water park, the Palmitos Park birds and botanical gardens. The island has beautiful natural parks to visit and 'El Charco Azul' (the blue lake), which is a pool at the bottom of a waterfall. Water-sports, golf and hiking are all popular activities on the island. There is also a wide selection of nightlife and restaurants, including gay activities.

Checking the weather

Weather in Gran Canaria The Gran Canaria climate is quite similar throughout the year with warm, sunny days being the norm. The temperature does rise in the summer months with the average temperature in the high 20 degrees centigrade. It is unusual for the temperature to get much hotter than 26ºC during summer. The evenings are cooler, but very pleasant for a stroll along the beach or a wander through the streets of the island's towns. In the winter months, the top temperature drops to around 20ºC, but with a low of around 14ºC, which makes the evenings slightly more chilly. For anyone coming from a freezing February in the UK, the weather in Gran Canaria will be balmy and beautiful. It virtually never rains in the summer, but showers are a possibility between December and April. Sea temperatures remain fairly constant, making it possible to swim in the crystal clear waters all year round. Where to find forecasts There are many websites which will show you the current weather and a five or ten-day forecast for Gran Canaria. The BBC weather reports are a popular choice for accuracy. Some websites will show you live temperature and weather details and others can provide you with long range forecasts such as a 15-day forecast. Last word Some people have described the weather in the Canary Islands as the best climate in the world. It really doesn't matter when you go, the sun will shine on you.
