Where to find a job as a vet
The art of veterinary medicine has a history which dates back to 2500 BC China. Evidence of the practice appears in other cultures as well, such as 4000 year old art from India, ancient Egypt, and 500 BC Rome. The first veterinarian school appeared in 18th century. The practice continues today, and can have more than one focus, both for large or small animals in various positions.
Large animals
Vets whose work focus on large animals have a number of places where they might find jobs. If a vet focuses on horses, then he might work as an on-call vet or vet emergency practices at racing stables or at the race courses itself. Other horse vets work on-call at animal hospitals or have practices in areas such as Newmarket where many stables abound. These vets may have to provide physical therapy to the large animals who are patients. Farm animals Vets who focus on farm animals such as cows, horses, goats and other farm animals can find jobs at veterinary practices with partners or form their own practices. Vets can also work at schools teaching vet courses to train others to become vets. Large animal vets can help to deliver animals as well. Large animal vets also can find jobs in humane societies and animal shelters which take in at-risk or ill animals. Horses which have been left in barns without proper food and water, and other animals at risk come to have facilities such as these. The vets at facilities may have to restore the animals to health as well as to determine whether the animal can have a useful life or not.
Small animals
There are vets who focus on pet jobs and work with small animals. Vets like these work with dogs, cats, birds, and other pets. These vets can be part of a practice which is based in communities. Emergency vets work at emergency hospitals which operate 24 hours a day and when regular vet practices are closed. Animal shelters and humane societies Vets can also find jobs caring for small animals by working in connection to animal shelters and humane societies. These vets help to spay and neuter animals which come in to have the facilities, as well as to diagnose and care for animals which have a weak health.
