Where to find jobs in sport
With the 2012 London Olympics getting ever closer, now is the perfect time to look for a job in sport. You do not have to be an experienced badminton coach to get a job in the sports industry. In fact, there are a great deal of administrative jobs in the field of sports. Without the administration side of things, the sporting spectacles we enjoy would be impossible. Here’s a guide to where you can find jobs in sports.
UK Sport
UK Sport is a publicly-funded organisation responsible for sporting performance, sporting events and maintaining and nurturing relationships with National Governing Bodies within the sporting arena. Funding sport Funded by both government money and by the National Lottery, they employ around 90 people. They also had a job section on their website where external recruiters can advertise their vacancies. You can find this section by heading to Uksport.gov.uk. Recruiters include various professional sports clubs including Cardiff City Football Club, Glamorgan Cricket and the UK Football Academy. There is a real diversity in the jobs advertised, varying from a conventional sport and fitness coaching job to managerial and even catering jobs.
Sport England
Sport England is another government-funded organisation which works in partner with UK Sport. Both organisations are held to account by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and both are great places to go to if a job in sports is what you want. The Sport England website also contains a careers page which can be found at Sportengland.org. This page only shows vacancies within the organisation itself but jobs from a variety of different recruiters can be found by clicking on the 'Other jobs in sport' link which can be found in the vertical navigation menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
