A guide to Augusta Technical College

Based in Augusta, Georgia, Augusta Technical College - or Augusta Tech as it is known - is an educational institution that offers students two-year degree programmes and other certificates. Dating back to 1961, the college was originally known as Augusta Area Vocational Technical School. After a merger and a few name changes, the college was given its current title in 2000. The college's degrees and diplomas are accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Academics

Programmes The college offers students the chance to study not only associate degrees, but diplomas, and technical certificates of credit. There are over 100 different programmes on offer including Nursing, Dental Assisting, Information and Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Accounting, Media Communications and Marketing to name but a few. Financial aid Financial aid options are available at Augusta College through a range of scholarships, grants and work-study programmes. Students who think they might be eligible for aid will need to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

Campus and services

Location There are three campuses, one in Augusta, a second in Thomson and a third in Waynesboro, which all fall under the accreditation of the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Bookstore The college has its own bookstores in all three campus locations, selling both new and used items. In addition to books, the stores also stock a range of computer software, gifts and study supplies such as files and paper. At the end of each quarter, students can sell back used textbooks to the stores. Careers service Augusta Technical College has its own careers service designed to give students the best foundations for a career after graduation. The Career Services Office posts both full and part time job offers to the college website and offers students mock interviews, CV and cover letter critiques, references and career fairs and workshops. Housing and dining The college does not provide its students with any kind of on-campus or
off-campus accommodation and students are expected to arrange their own housing before starting at the college. Food is provided in the form of breakfasts and lunch in the college cafeteria in the Augusta campus from between 7.30 a.m and 1.30 p.m.
