A guide to King tut exhibits

Three major King Tutankhamun exhibitions are currently touring with original Tut artefacts on show. Find them in Melbourne, Australia, Dublin, Ireland, and Minnesota, USA. Travellers to Egypt will find further treasures from Howard Carter’s King Tut excavation at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, including Tutankhamun's pharaoh mask.

Tutankhamun's Tomb, key to Ancient Egypt

Who was Tutankhamun?
Sometimes called 'tut', 'tut ankh amon', or 'tutankhamen', he was an Egyptian boy king who would have remained obscure had his tomb not been preserved beneath another, more significant, pharaoh's tomb. The tomb contents, its lifelike statuettes, models, and pictures of Tutankhamun, educated the world about Egypt 3,000 years ago. How did King Tut die? Recent tests show it was from an infected wound. Tutankhamun his tomb and his Treasures Exhibition
This reconstruction of the tomb of Tutankhamun features over a thousand exact replicas of originals, arranged as they were found. Visitors at RDS Industries Hall, Dublin can walk through the reconstructed tomb and experience that moment of wonder and discovery that archaeologists experienced in 1922, when they accidentally stumbled on its thousands of gilded and beautifully crafted treasures. This multimedia display is a good introduction to Tutankhamun for kids, especially with its replica of the celebrated King Tut mask.

Museums Showing King Tut Exhibitions

Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs Exhibition
Its New York city time over, this spectacular exhibition opened at Melbourne Museum, April 2011, bringing many of Egypt’s finest King Tutankhamun treasures to Australia for the first time. One hundred and twenty artefacts, fifty from the King Tut tomb and seventy others related to him and his time, will return permanently to Egypt in July. Jewellery, exquisite carvings, shabti, and scarabs scarcely tarnished by time are displayed to explain Ancient Egyptian style and character. Tutankhamun the Golden King and the Great Pharaohs Exhibition
Features fifty King Tut exhibits as well as many others from other tombs. This exhibition also features some of Tut's canoptic jars and shabti, and his golden sandals. Companion exhibits are the Mummies television programmes. St Paul Science Museum at Minnesota until September 2011, opens at Texas Museum of Fine Arts, October. Where to see the original King Tut mask
The gold and lapis lazuli Tutankhamun death mask last left Egypt over thirty years ago. Its iron cage in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo, preserved it from raiders who entered the museum in February 2011 during political protests. Other Pharaoh Tutankhamun exhibits were stolen or broken, but expert restorers and model makers who take care of the boy king's relics and make replicas for other exhibitions have rescued and repaired them. Tutankhamun's mummy is safe. Cairo Museum cares for many other Ancient Egyptian masks and conserves new treasures as they are found.
