A guide to United Airlines' partners

After its merger with Continental, United Airlines became one of the largest fleet airlines in the world in May 2010. The airline serves 73 domestic locations within the United States and operates to each of the inhabited continents. With the emergence of a partnership scheme with other airlines from across the world, the number of destinations available increased. This guide informs you about those partner airlines.

United partners

Star Alliance Network
The airline partnership scheme known as Star Alliance operates to over
1,000 destinations worldwide and incorporates 28 airlines from around the world. Benefits

A further seven airlines are partners of United, but not within the Star Alliance.
Air miles scheme
The system for using any air miles acclaimed on United is known as Mileage Plus, this can be used on any of the 35 airlines within the partnership on flights worldwide.

Partner airlines

North America
As well as United and Continental, other carriers within North America are US Airways and Air Canada. Hawaiian Airlines and Island Air are also partners but do not form part of the Star Alliance.
Europe
The majority of the airlines within the star alliance are airlines based within Europe and range from Scandinavia to Turkey. The largest European airline within the alliance is the German carrier Lufthansa. Only one of the European based partnership airlines is not a member of the Star Alliance and that is the Irish airline Aer Lingus.
Middle East and Africa
Two Middle Eastern airlines are a part of the partnership -these are Emirates and Qatar. The only African airlines within the star alliance are Egyptair and South African Airlines.
Asia and Pacific regions
Seven airlines within this region are members of the partnership, with six of them being in the Star Alliance. Air China, Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand are the major airlines to be partners from this part of the world.
South and Central America
Two airlines are based from this region TACA from Central America and TAM from Brazil.
