A good way of identifying different Mercedes Benz cars is by Mercedes Benz’s signature nomenclature. Cars are given different classes to denote different types of vehicles. The A for Hatchbacks, B for Multi purpose vehicles, C for Sedans, Estates & Coupes, CL for Coupes, CLS for the four-door Coupes, E-Class for the Sedans, Estates, Coupes & Cabriolets, G Class for Cross Country vehicles, GL class for off-roader, M class for Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), R Class for Luxury Tourer Vehicles (LTVs), S class for the Sedan, SL Class for the roadster, SLK for the roadster, SLS AMG for the Coupe and Viano for the Multi Purpose Vehicle (MVP). The latter is effectively a mini-bus which is often used by taxi companies.

SLK class

The SLK class of Mercedes is one of the most popular class. Its name is derived from the company’s design mission to create a roadster car that is simultaneously short, sporty and light. As such, it has a very sleek design with the bonnet gently meeting the low roof, which is usually available as a sunroof. In its first year of selling, it was massively successful, selling 55,000. The launch model, the SLK 230 Kompressor, was designed as a modern reincarnation of the Mercedes Benz 190SL and to compete with the Porsche Boxster and BMW Z3.
