Why is it so special?
The historic ground was established in 1814. Since then, the ground has flourished into gaining the status of 'the home of cricket.' The Victorian style pavilion is one of the only parts of the ground that has been left relatively untouched and it certainly stands out as a piece of historic beauty. Some of the best players in the world have graced the Lords turf and left their mark. You can visit the MCC museum in the grounds and be educated in the history of Lords which has showcased some of the best cricketing matches ever to be seen. The stadium has a capacity of 28,000, with a view to redeveloping certain areas of the ground to allow it to gain an extra 10,000 seats.
Who plays there and can I get tickets?
Lords hosts both England one-day international and test matches whilst also being the home ground to middlesex CC who currently play in the second tier of English domestic cricket. With regard to getting Lords tickets, it is not always easy to attain a ticket for an England match due to the high volume of interest. However, if you book well in advance via Lords.org, there is no reason why you can't get hold of a ticket. If county cricket is more your game, cricket match tickets for Middlesex are easy to obtain for all forms of the game. Again, simply visit the Lords website and use the ticketing option to find out the ticketing details. Aside from cricket, the stadium is also planning to host the Archery event in the 2012 Olympics, where the competitors will fire their arrows in front of the remarkable pavilion.
What else is there to do?
There is plenty to do at Lords and you are strongly encouraged to explore as much of the ground as you can to get the very best experience available to you. There are many food and drink stores available to you throughout your day and although they are expensive, the quality of the food is certainly excellent. There is also a shop for all the merchandise you may require to remember your day at the Home of Cricket. From replica shirts to official Lords memorabilia and gifts, all your merchandise can be found there.
