A travel guide to Florida counties
If you are travelling in Florida in winter, the counties in the southern part of the state and Orlando are the usual destinations. In the summer, the northern coastal counties are also popular. High season in the southern counties of Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade is winter, when prices are high and hotel rooms full. The Orlando-Disney World area of central Florida is in Orange County and is busy all year.

Travelling to South Florida counties
East coast counties Most travel to Florida's east coast in the winter is to Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Major Florida cities Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach are located here. Hotel rates and occupancy reach a peak in February and March. In the summer, there are bargains in accommodations and restaurants. Winter temperature are reliably mild on the "Gold Coast," but summers are very hot and humid. West coast counties Travel to the Florida west coast is spread out across Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee and Collier counties. The major city of Tampa is located in Hillsborough county to the north. The posh resort of Naples is in Collier county to the south. High season is winter here too, though the seasonality is not as pronounced. The weather can get downright cool in winter, especially in Hillsborough county. On the other hand, summers are not quite as hot and humid as on the east coast. Travel to counties outside South Florida
Orlando area Orlando and most of the Disney resort area are in Orange county; a small part of the resort complex is in Osceola county. The entertainment centre is busy all year, but more in winter. Summers can be very hot in the daytime. Northern East Coast The Atlantic coast, especially the Daytona Beach area, are summer oriented, though some winter travel is seen. Duval county at the north end includes the major city of Jacksonville and its beaches. Daytona Beach and the Kennedy Space Centre regions are in Flagler and Volusia counties respectively. Northern Florida Counties and the Panhandle The capital city of Tallahassee is in Leon County. With so many beaches in Florida, Tallahassee is not a frequent tourist destination. The Panhandle features beautiful beaches that are less crowded than those to the south. High season is summer, as winters tend to be cold. Primary travel destinations are Pensacola in Escambia County, Fort Walton Beach in Okaloosa County and Panama City in Bay County.
