Facts about Singapore Air

Overview Singapore Airlines flies to over 30 countries and over 60 cities worldwide, and it covers most continents.
Its regional sister airline, SilkAir, operates to more than 30 destinations in Asia. Singapore Airlines is known for its excellent standard in services and it often gets voted as the best airline, or one of the best airlines, in the world in passenger surveys. Its prices are relatively high compared to some other carriers on the same routes, but Singapore Airlines is famous for high quality service, including personal TV screens and a choice of meals in the Economy Class.
The symbol of the airline’s high standards in customer service is the Singapore Girl, the name given to its stewardesses. The airline was founded in 1972 from the former Malaysia-Singapore Airlines.
It grew from a regional airline to one of the biggest international airlines in the world and it claims to be the first airline to have offered free headsets, free drinks and a choice of meals in Economy Class. It also claims that it was the first airline to offer video and audio on demand in 2001.
Singapore Airlines was also the first airline in the world to use the Airbus A380, the biggest passenger plane currently in operation.

The different classes on Singapore Airlines

Classes Singapore Airlines offers four different classes of travel: Economy, Business, First, and Suites.
Suites are only available on the Airbus A380 from Singapore to London, Melbourne, Sydney, Hong Kong, Tokio, Paris, Los Angeles and Zurich.
The suites are individual compartments with their own doors and walls, designer interiors, leather seats and folded beds, and LCD TV screens.
Final word The Singapore Airlines frequent flyer programme is the KrisFlyer. SIA also belongs to the Star Alliance, and it has codeshares with several other airlines, including Virgin Atlantic, Malaysia Airlines and its own regional wing SilkAir. Silk Air's Asia flights are usually more affordable than SIA flights, and they can be a good option for travel around Asia.
