Yuba College is the flagship campus for the Yuba Community College District in California, USA. A two-year community college, it looks to maintain strong relationships with both the senior college network as well as local high Schools. Over the last five years, there has been an extensive refurbishment programme of the buildings on the main campus.

History and location

Origins of the college Yuba College was first conceived in 1911, by a gentleman named J.C. Wray, a principal of Marysville High School. Marysville Junior College, one of the first junior colleges in California, soon admitted 67 students, and started a period of steady growth. By 1928, overcrowding had become a problem at the college, with some classes taking place in stair-wells and corridors. Yuba Community College District
A move to the current Marysville High School took place, while the citizens of the local area also founded the Yuba Community College District, the first of its kind in the state of California. Location of the college
By 1962, the college had moved to its present site in Linda, with a range of new building work taking place during the rest of that decade. The campus now covers 160 acres, and is located on North Beale Road, Linda, Marysville. Campuses and the number of students The college also operates two satellite campuses at Clear Lake Campus and Beale Air Force Base. It is part of a college district covering all or at least part of eight counties in Northern California, an area covering around 4,200 miles of the state's territory. There are currently around 10,000 students enrolled at the college.

Learning and lifestyle

Programmes of study
There are 90 programmes of study on offer to students at the college, helping them with their aims of achieving associate degrees, certificates or transfer to a four-year college. Yuba college operates five programmes of study. These are Business/Technology, Fine Arts, Health/Physical Education, Language Arts, Math, Science & Health Occ. and Social Sciences. Learning Communities Something called 'Learning Communities', are also on offer to students. These consists of administrative groupings, which allow students to build social and academic links with other students. These students will not necessarily be from the same subject area, thereby fostering a sense of the wider collegiate community. Sports activities Yuba has a strong athletics programmer for a college of its size, being a member of the Bay Valley Conference, Northern California Football Conference, as well as the California Association of Community Colleges. There are teams competing in men's and women's basketball, soccer, and track, as well as baseball, football, softball and volleyball.
