CA Anti-Virus Plus: Review and rate

CA Antivirus Plus is an antivirus software which is made for the Windows operating system. It is published and developed by CA Technologies (formerly CA, Inc. and Computer Associates, Inc.) Here, I shall be reviewing the latest version which was released in 2011.

Pros

With the previous version of CA Anti-Virus Plus, a fairly solid protection is on offer. This allows the software to provide protection both online and offline. Protection is offered against not only viruses but also against worms, Trojans, spyware and other forms of malware. Added to this deadly arsenal against computer nasties, is now the ability to detect rootkits and get protection from them. Included with the software is a comprehensive real-time scanning which will check all files upon access, such as saving or opening; it will even ensure that closed files stay safe and secure and. Upon failure, will take necessary steps to prevent further actions being taken by any unauthorised processes. The ease of use of the latest innovation from CA's security software is pretty impressive in itself. It has a very stylish-looking interface but at the same time, it is simple to use. It also features enough customisation options to suit the needs of just about most users. It also seems to have a pretty small resource footprint with very little (if any slow down) notice.

Cons

Whilst the interface certainly is stylish, it still doesn't detract from the fact that it is based on the same interface shared by CA Internet Security Plus. Whilst this is by no means a bad thing per se, it can still be a bit irritant insofar as the features that are available in CA Internet Security Plus are just greyed out: why CA did not just remove them altogether? Even though the resources used seem to cause little to no-slow-down on modern systems, if you try it out on a six year old PC, there may be some noticeable slow-down. This might not be of much consequence to those who own a powerhouse. However, for those with lower specification machines, other options might be worth considering. Another downside is that there is no silent gamer mode available or any anti-phishing protection on offer - something you would come to expect from a paid product.
