Comparing the value of signed football shirts

A shirt signed by the latest hotshot footballer is very often worth between the range of hundreds of pounds to thousands of pounds to an adoring fan. However, it depends on which club sporting heroes play for, and also on how much people will pay for sports memorabilia. So, which autographed jerseys are worth more than others?

Best of British sports memorabilia

Top Premier League
The elite Premier League clubs, such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, always attract major stars to the ranks and therefore, their signed football clothes are worth considerably more than lower league clubs, like Leeds United shirts these days. For example, a Man Utd signed David Beckham shirt will cost hundreds of pounds, compared to a signed Leeds United shirt from the Leeds United shop costing much less.
Regionalised preferences
Also, a Liverpool signed shirt would cost more than the elite teams in Scotland, Celtic and Rangers, simply because of the stigma associated with the Premier League. It’s simply more popular and therefore its elite teams’ signed shirts are in higher demand.

Europe

Real Madrid
Looking further afield to the continent, the elite European clubs also receive high demand for their stars’ jerseys. For example, autograph dealers will fall over each other to fight for the right to sell on Christiano Ronaldo’s signed Real Madrid shirt. That being said, most of Madrid’s big signings from this past summer would attract major money for their autographed sports shirts. Football fan items
Football collectibles and sport autographs are just as popular on the continent as they are over here. Signed footballs and football photos are also incredibly popular too, possibly because these are cheaper than signed shirts.

Other sports

So, how does this popularity with signed memorabilia for football transfer to other sports? Are autograph signings from golfers and basketball players as expensive and as popular as a signed ball from football? In a word, no! Basketball jerseys
Signed basketball jerseys are incredibly popular in the US and certainly Michael Jordan’s signed jersey and autographed photos could be worth millions to the right collector. However, this side of the pond football is more popular and therefore signed shirts are in much higher demand. Golf
Golf photos, as you might expect, do not pull in the kind of money that signed football shirts do. However, they are fairly popular because of the scenery available on them.
