How US time zones divide the states
At around 3000 miles across from the east coast to the west coast, the sun rises and sets at different time across the United States. The time of the day in New York is always different from the time of the day in San Francisco. A time zone is a geographical area that works on the same time of the day. The time on every clock in one time zone should be the same. The United Sates are divided into four time zones. Read on the following article to know more on how the US time zones divide the states.

Eastern Standard Time
Eastern Standard Time, or ESTt time, is the time zone that includes the most eastern states of the US, adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean. These include Connecticut, Delaware, North Carolina and all of the New England states, plus more. The dividing line The dividing line between EST time and CST time (central standard time) starts in the north, at the border between Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, runs down through Lake Michigan, cuts through Kentucky and Tennessee, divides Georgia and Alabama, and then ends at the pan-handle in Florida.
Central Standard Time
CST time, or central standard time includes mos to what would be considered as the 'southern states' This includes Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. It is the largest world time zone in the United States, and includes many states. Some states are divided by the time line including Kansas and Nebraska, which are both partly in MST time.
Mountain Standard Time
Moving further west, MST time, or mountain standard time is the next world time zone in the States. The MST time zone includes the states of Arizona, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Wyoming and Utah. More states are divided by the timeline to the west with the states of Idaho, Oregon, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Texas and Nevada, straddling MST time and PST.
Pacific Standard Time
PST time or pacific standard time is the time zone that is used by the states that are adjacent to the Pacific Ocean. The states that are wholly included in the Pacific time zone are California, Washington, Oregon and Nevada. The northern part of Idaho is also included. A good map of the USA should show a division of where each of the time zones start and end.
