How to bargain with Volkswagen dealers in the U.K.
Negotiating at dealerships for a new car is an important part of the buying process. It doesn't involve distasteful tactics and other stereotypes. Here are a couple of tips that can give you an edge in the buying process.

Do your research
Before you head to the VW dealership, you should have done a wealth of research. Much of what you need to do to negotiate is performed prior to this point.
Price point
Whether you're buying new or used, obtain a price point for the car that you are purchasing. For instance, you will be able to do research on the model and price that they are selling for, in your area. If it is a new car, you will be able to get a quote on a model that is in stock, which is always a way to get a competitive price.
Options
Always have options. For instance, don't zone-in on one VW dealership, if at all possible. In this way, once you start talking prices, you can have dealerships bidding against each other to obtain your business. Contact more than one and get the ball rolling.
Finance
Obtain the finance before you step foot in the dealership. There are too many bad stories otherwise, such as pinning your hopes on a promotional APR or worse, their "low rate" financing. Comparison shop and get pre-approved for a loan and don't take your chances as you have nothing to lose.
Put it all together
So, you have financing, a couple of quotes and options and you're ready to step into the dealership.
Negotiating trade-in
Note that if you have a trade-in, always negotiate it individually. As you might have guessed, do your research and obtain multiple offers, again, to comparison shop and use dealers against each others (here, of course, use any place that will buy the car).
Negotiating prices
Don't be afraid to negotiate for the price that you like. It might be a lower one than offered, but if you have option, you'll gain some flexibility. If you want to push the envelope a bit, don't be afraid to walk out and wait for them to call you. This is said to be an effective technique. Remember to have plenty of options through out the process.
