What is an IP?

An IP address (Internet Protocol) address of a computer, in its simplest form, is an identification of a computer on a network. The IP address or IP Configuration helps in identifying and connecting to a computer when it is on a Local Area Network or internet. Several other hardware devices such as printers, routers, and modems are also assigned IP addresses. An IP address is a combination of numbers and decimals.

Find my IP

Your IP address can be found from the Command Prompt on your computer. Go to Start > Run, the Run dialog box is displayed. Type ipconfig and press Enter. The IP address is displayed. You can get a new IP by changing the static IP or dynamic IP. Changing the dynamic IP is not advised as it is assigned by a network administrator or an internet service provider and changing it will impact your access to network/internet. You can, however, change your static IP. Here is a sample screen that shows your fixed IP address or static IP.
